Keywords: systematic review, educational technologies, ICT, content analysis, emerging technologies

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The integration of emerging technologies in education is important in the 21st century society. However, there are various research where technologies are integrated and, despite this, there are no substantial changes in Latin American classrooms. METHOD: The objective of this systematic review was to analyze research published in high impact journals where emerging technologies are integrated in school contexts in order to determine the complexity of the research. The search was conducted in May 2022 using the PRISMA method for the selection of 20 Latin American articles published between 2018 to 2022. As inclusion criteria, empirical articles published in WOS, Scopus and ProQuest databases were considered, where some intervention has been applied in schoolchildren using emerging technologies. RESULTS: The findings show a great variety of technologies used in diverse academic areas, where the level of complexity in the studies is of acquisition and deepening of knowledge and where the students had a role of individual users during the investigations. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that there should be a change of focus in future research to generate a better integration of emerging technologies and a profound change in Latin American classrooms.
