Teen dating violence from the perspective of socio-educational professionals. A qualitative study
Abstract
In this study we address the problem of violence in adolescent couple relationships, and for this we explore the factors associated with its prevalence and educational interventions to eradicate this violence. Method. The data were obtained from semi-structured interviews with teachers, counselors and social educators from Almería and its province. Results. The results suggest that psychological violence is the most common among adolescent couples, and that the prevalence of violence is fundamentally due to the differences in socialization styles that both parents use depending on the sex of their sons and daughters, and of course, to cultural factors linked to ethnic origin. Other factors, but no less important, are related to the influence of the media, social networks and peers. Discussion. Knowing the vision of professionals involved in the training process of these adolescents, it is concluded that, despite the fact that educational institutions are developing various actions, the education and training of educational personnel is a very important aspect to take into consideration to address the problem issue of violence in adolescent dating relationships.
