Socio-educational inclusion in the University of Minho. Perceptions and attitudes about students with disabilities
Abstract
The effective socio-educational inclusion of students with disabilities represents one of the major challenges facing universities, which requires the acceptance and recognition of the entire university community. In this sense, in order to continue previous research in other European countries, the present study is presented in the Portuguese context with the purpose of analyzing the conceptions that students have about the inclusion of their peers with disabilities. The participants were 173 students from the Faculty of Education Sciences and Psychology of the University of Minho (Portugal). The results, organized according to the categories of analysis on indicators of attention to the disability in the university, indicate a positive attitude towards this group. However, there is a need to make improvements regarding the adaptation of the methodology and resources, as well as the availability of the necessary means for their active participation in university life.
