Between value and power: contributions of Luis Villoro´s philosophy to the debate about principles and ends of intercultural education in Latin America
Abstract
This paper highlights Luis Villoro’s contributions to the philosophy of education, particularly the conceptual bases in his political— ethics, as an interpretative framework for understanding the purposes and principles of intercultural education in Latin America. It is argued how the application of some of the conceptual categories developed by this author would represent an analytical strategy that allows revisiting the question for the purposes of intercultural education, identifying the socioeducational arrangements that predominate in educational political discourses. It is proposed a distinction between those intercultural socio-educational arrangements committed to value, —characterized by a transformative nature with respect to the dominating structures prevailing in today’s societies—, and those arrangements committed to power, —characterized by having a reiterative character that consolidates and reproduces the inequalities, asymmetries and socio-educational exclusions.
