Factors affecting the implementation of ICT in teaching and learning processes in the 5th level of a Colombian primary school

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyze the factors affecting the use of ICT in the teaching-learning process at the 5th grade, elementary level in a Colombian school; consequently, it is essential to create a proposal in order to improve its use. A qualitative method was used and the information was collected through interviews, observations and documents review. The participants of this study were 5th grade students, teachers and school officials of a public primary school, who shared their opinions about the use of ICT in their educational center. Among the factors that influence in the implementation of technological tools there can be found: training, availability of resources and institutional support. As a result, it was found that all the participants acknowledge the benefits of ICT, especially students. However, enhancement is needed in training and support from higher authorities.
