Analysis of translation of cultural images in Chinese American literature: "The kitchen God´s wife" by Amy Tan
Abstract
This article explored the second novel, The kitchen God´s wife, written by the famous Chinese American writer Amy Tan, published in 1991 and its translation skills of Chinese cultural images showed between the Chinese translation and Spanish translations. By using the original English, Chinese translation and Spanish translation, it compared two different target languages to see if the readers can receive the Chinese cultural images from the original author. The result shows that there are different ways from the translation skills of the translator, depending on different culture and languages; translator with Chinese background understood that the author of the original book depicted Chinese culture. So the Chinese version of this novel is more able to transmit original author´s Chinese Cultural Images.Downloads
