Challenges and opportunities in the fight against misinformation and copyright in Journalism: MediaVerse (AI, blockchain and smart contracts)
Abstract
This paper addresses how artificial intelligence (AI) applied together with blockchain technology and the use of smart contracts can solve the problems of intellectual property, copyright and fake news in the field of journalistic and communication products. The MediaVerse tool (which uses AI, blockchain and smart contracts for the registration and monitoring of authorship) is presented and its possibilities are compared with the opinions collected in two focus group with university professors and journalism professionals. It is concluded that the tool is useful and that its integration into teaching and professional routines would be positive from the point of view of monitoring the journalistic products housed in it, especially for self-employed professionals, small media and for citizens. But its ability to fight misinformation has not been verified by the opinions of the participants.
