Images in crisis: analysis of the press discourse on the effects of Covid-19 on Spanish audiovisual production
Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze how Covid-19 has impacted Spanish audiovisual production. A quantitative and textual analysis is carried out of the news appeared in national media and in the Spanish language that expressly refer to audiovisual productions during the pandemic. The analyzed period begins on March 11, 2020 and ends one year later. The search for content on audiovisual productions and Covid-19 is carried out for all Spanish media through the Factiva® database. 525 records are obtained which have been examined using the T-LAB software. The results reveal that the largest number of news items refer to the suspension of film and television productions that were taking place at that time. The press focuses on the shooting phase, leaving aside factors such as the exhibition of productions.
