Credibility and interest factors of news in the (dis)information landscape
Abstract
The present research examines which are the main factors influencing credibility and interest in news in Spain, within the current concern about misinformation. The objective of this article is to get to know the factors that influence the aforementioned phenomenon, to what extent they do so and their possible interdependencies. In order to measure the weight of the factors that make news items more or less interesting and/or credible, an online panel survey was carried out over a sample of 4.351 people, made up of stratified random sampling with proportional allocation. It is concluded that credibility and interest depend on several factors; the most influential being the way through which items of news are accessed, followed by others more related to the content: the topic, for credibility, and the editorial style, for interest.
