Evolution of Antena 3 television prime time (1990-2010): audience, macro genres and representative contents
Abstract
The arrival of private television was a point in the history of the medium due to the increase in supply, the introduction of programming strategies or the incorporation of new genres (hybrids). In this context, it is interesting to focus on the evolution of Antena 3 - the first private station in Spain - by carrying out an evolutionary analysis of its programming and audience from its birth to the analog blackout (1990-2010). An analysis of the content of the grills is carried out (4 weeks per year, representative of the programming of each season and the seasonal programming) creating a database that includes, among others, the following items: time, day, month and year of issue; stage of the channel; gender and macrogender; or duration. The analysis shows, among other results, that with each change of shareholder there have been direct changes in its programming; and the channel's commitment to certain macro genres such as information and fiction has been identified
