Pros and cons of the renewed deontological code of Catalan journalists
Abstract
The journalism, like others professions, is committed to a regulatory framework that, in addition to the public regulations, is based on a self-regulatory system that has in its codes of ethics the central element of accountability. It’s, in this context, where this paper analyzes the role played by this type of ethical delimiters of the information activity. The revision of the code of Catalan journalists allows us to investigate the extent to which the ethical principles of the profession are updated and adapted to a context where cyber-journalism takes on greater importance. The present work puts in context and compares the new version of the Catalan deontological code with the older, detecting some new items that the revisers have introduced. Despite the initial similar appearance between both versions, there are several changes that evidence the work developed by the delegated committee.
