The challenge of gender equality in higher education in communication. From awareness to training in gender mainstreaming
Abstract
The scope of this research is to know the awareness, education and training in equality of future professionals in the area of Communication. To this end, the importance they attach to gender mainstreaming in professional practice has been measured and their training in this area has been tested, as well as the importance that students attach to different institutions in the struggle for equality in order to contextualize the role attributed to the University. To achieve the objectives set, a survey has been designed, based on guidelines and indicators proposed by international organizations, professional associations and academic research, and distributed to 465 students. Among the conclusions, it is noteworthy that university students in the area of communication show a clear gender awareness, have acquired training throughout their academic life (at school, college or university, including non-formal education) but their ability to identify gender biases in information is limited.
