The treatment of information of World Pride Madrid in the Spanish television news
Abstract
This research investigates the treatment of information in the celebration of World Pride Madrid 2017 in the Spanish television news. It was analyzed, firstly, the 28th of June, the official World Pride Day and, secondly, the 1th of July 2017, the date of the event. The objective is to find some differences regarding the treatment between public television and private channels and to analise what type of information is shown, highlighting the time spent on the news, the focus established, the evaluation carried out by them and the images shown on television. The object of study is a total of ten news, two for each of the five Spanish television news programmes. The methodology is based on the content analysis performing both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the selected items. The results indicate a tendency to show a balanced view of the event, with some exceptions.
