The need for regional public television in the era of youtubers
Abstract
Regional public television has recently faced challenges that put in doubt its future existence as guarantor of the public service of information and entertainment. The emergence of new communication models, as a consequence of the implementation of new audiovisual platforms, require a revision of the objectives and strategies of regional public broadcasting entities, beyond the old debates on the principle of competition or complementarity that should govern relations with private television. This research focuses on the consequences of public regional television’s evolution and an analysis of its future prospects, without regard to its competitive position vis-à-vis third parties, but with the intention of shedding light on the process of developing a new identity, required by the new communication scenario.Downloads
