The importance of the local committed journalism: "The Papa Moscas" and Jacinto Ontañón
Abstract
The local proximity media are faced with the deep crisis that placed them in a weak position against the economic and political power. In this context this report recover the figure of Jacinto Ontañón (1845-1917) who was the first professional journalist from Burgos and also, one of the most highlighted professional journalists in Spain. Ontañón invested his efforts in a social and citizen journalism which defended the interests of the population. Furthermore, he provided to the proximity media the importance of being a communicative element and also an identity element related with the area and the local society. Ontañón and The Papa Moscas represent the importance of the local journalism and they provide us the key to success relying on the commitment and the professional independence.Downloads
