Abstract

This investigation analyses the treatment that the two major circulation newspapers in Ecuador, El Universo and El Comercio, make about the femicide, recognized as a criminal offense in the Integral Organic Penal Code (COIP) since the year 2014. In this context, it was made the analysis of content of 258 publications about this subject. Among the most relevant results is that there is a presence of sensationalism, and at the same time the theme is spectacularized in at least the half of publications; and, in general, it is considered that there is no relevant contribution to education about femicide by the media studied, nor does it contributes to the eradication of gender violence.
