Abstract

The present work shows a comparative analysis of the issue “women” in the Women’s International Day, the 8th March, 2007 (PSOE) compared with the 8th March, 2012 (PP). This analysis is made on El País, El Mundo, La Razón y ABC, focusing on: 1) description and quantification of the space given by mass media to the issue as well as their characteristics and the corresponding comparative analysis; 2) analysis of the linguistic and journalistic treatment of the subject; 3) Agenda Setting; 4) and humour effects. This comparative analysis with five years’ distance under two opposite political governments will show the influence that the political agenda has on the journalistic one, whose effects act in a different way according to the ideological line of the analysed newspaper.
