Abstract

Community radio is the most widely used communication media in projects of social change, but it is not exempt of collateral risks in the fields of invisibility, isolation and knowledge inbreeding. Communities who exclusively resort to it, scarcely get to spread their message. Somehow they are also condemned to an isolation which seems paradoxical in the current international society, where every local need has, at least partially, a basis and a global response. Finally, its inbred nature impedes the construction of networks of knowledge to enrich the own culture and tradition with external resources, whether they come from the North or from SouthSouth cooperation nets. Thus, it is imperative to attend to the potentials of integrating other communication media– such as video, film and Internet to promote human development.
