Contents for the Design of Public Health Spanish Courses
Abstract
Despite its relevance, the language of medicine has not awakened a demand in the teaching of Spanish for Specific Purposes comparable to that experienced by other sectoral languages with global repercussions also. This is verified reviewing of the meritorious Medical Spanish manuals published to date, which address the different areas of Medical Spanish, moreover, from the perspective of a teaching general course. This article considers a barely explored specialty, Public Health, of great projection for the teaching of Spanish due to its intersectoral nature and international recognition. We propose for this discipline the general contents and activities related to its five areas (Epidemiology, Health Care Administration, Preventive Medicine, Environmental and Occupational Health and Health Promotion), and furthermore we achieve a proposal with the components and tasks assignments to develop three specific modules (epidemiology and cancer prevention, vaccines, and health of the elderly) within the scope linked to Preventive Medicine.
