Abstract
The context of the article is the city of Turin in the first half of the 19th century, capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia and, later, the first capital of the young nation, a background in which a quite intense female artistic activity emerged, attested above all by the exhibition catalogues, by contemporary journalism and confirmed by research in archives and collections. Among the most significant female artistic and biographical experiences that of Ottavia Borghese Countess Masino di Mombello arises, who was Academician of San Luca in Rome, daughter and disciple of Giuseppina Quaglia Borghese, sister of the “Compagnia di San Luca” in Turin. This text tries to outline her biographical-artistic profile and her activity, still unknown, is revealed thanks to the discovery of paintings and drawings guarded in museums and private collections and following the traces of epistolary material that have allowed some works to be returned to the legitimate author and pave the way for future studies.
