The contemporary art museum as an educational tool. Proposal for a universitymuseum link program designed for students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education
Abstract
This article presents the shared teaching and research experience carried out between the Education Department of the Artium Museoa, Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque Country and the subject Education of the Arts and Visual Culture of the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education of the Faculty of Education of Bilbao (UPV/EHU). After analyze theories that contemplate the need to advocate for a quality Arts Education and the relevance that the link between educational centers and art museums acquires in this path, the museum-university educational program Mano a mano is presented. In view of the museum's potential as an educational tool, this program has been designed jointly in order to contribute to improving the skills of future teachers when it comes to working in and trough art and wanting, in turn, to value the possibilities offered by collaboration with an art museum. Finally, it is verified that with this program the students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education gain confidence within the museum, increase their ability to design educational proposals through the arts and grow their interest and motivation in relation to contemporary art.
