To save the forgetfulness: Lucía Victoria Bacardí Cape, precursor of sculpture in Santiago de Cuba
Abstract
The article assesses the significance of sculptress Lucía Victoria Bacardí Cape inside Cuban art. Analyzes the iconographic repertoire of art pieces placed in the Emilio Bacardí Moreau of Santiago de Cuba. Her figure as a creator is addressed in a cultural context which makes it an exceptional woman of Cuba. Shows the artistic stature of a practically ignored creator by literatura and public. In a first momento its stages of artistic training are examined in correspondance with the social and historic context generated by its creation. Below is offered an assesment of the creative set of the artis through analysis of its aesthetic value, the identification of their main references and the place that this woman occupies inside Cuban sculpture panorama. To study her works is to recognize her transgressive artistic and human personality by dedicating herself to an art that had been forbidden to women and in wich she excelled.
