Pushing Visual Boundaries in Music Festivals: Drone Shows and the Evolution of 3D Screens
Abstract
This research explores new visual resources to enhance the live music experience, specifically focusing on the innovative use of drone shows as a new form of visual representation. The main objective is to understand and distinguish the unique characteristics of drone displays compared to other visual elements in concerts. Relevant literature will be referenced, and a detailed case study will be conducted, analyzing Icelandic singer Björk’s concert at the 2023 Coachella festival, featuring a fleet of 864 drones. The results will highlight both the benefits and limitations of this form of visual representation, within the context of the increasing spectacle in large-scale concerts and music festivals catering to massive audiences.
