Historical film in the educational field: cultural discourses after the encounter with America.
Abstract
This paper aims to explore the possibilities offered by film as a didactic resource for the analysis of controversial topics in the teaching of History, such as the cultural encounter between the Old and New World, from 1492 onwards. Film allows to improve civic, creative and critical thinking skills in Primary/Secondary Education and Baccalaureate. Using a systematic viewing methodology for a large part of the cinematographic production that recreates this historical period, with analysis of specific scenes, we have focused on the treatment of the figure of the conqueror and the native Amerindian in the cinema. All this, through the use of stereotypes in the collective imaginary, both in Spain as in Spanish-American countries, and in foreigners.
