Mnemosine and Wikipedia: Sharing the Past as a Social Need
Abstract
The consolidation of collective memory has Wikipedia as a meeting place that guarantees the democratic participation of society. Furthermore, its appeal to neutrality as a basic rule of conduct limits subjective temptations that could condition the final results. With this article we aim to show the vigor and dynamism that the online encyclopedia contributes to the recovery, maintenance and dissemination of historical events that are part of the idiosyncrasy of a country through the analysis of two entries that shocked Spanish society: the attacks on the 11M in Madrid and August 2017 in Barcelona.
