'Miss Cuplé' (Pedro Lazaga, 1959): A Parody of 'El último cuplé', Gender Roles and the Modernization under Franco
Abstract
This work studies the Spanish movie Miss Cuplé (Pedro Lazaga, 1959). The objective is to investigate the origin of this parody of El último cuplé (The last torch song, Juan de Orduña, 1957) and the social criticism exposed in its argument. More specifically, the critics referring to the situation of women in Franco's Spain and also to the modernization of the sixties. In order to do this, we have used the Textual Analysis method.
