Borders of permanence, controls and childhoods: The educational space in Chile as an extension of migratory control?
Abstract
The aim of this article is to explore the existence/extension of various migration control devices that are present in childhood, taking as a paradigmatic case the educational space in Chile. To achieve this goal a qualitative study was carried on that reflects on the individual and collective fieldwork of the authors. One of the conclusions reached is that certain school devices (required by the Ministry of Education and others of the schools' own initiative) are part of a heterogeneous and contingent set of controls at the borders of permanence, seeking to detect those irregular migrant children who could threaten the educational social fabric if they do not comply with the requests of the school system.
