A systematic literature review: collective memory, childhood and migration

Keywords: Social studies of childhood, bibliographic review, scientific production, immigration, social memory

Abstract

Childhood, memory and migration are usually topics that the scientific literature deals with separately. In this article, we present the results of a systematic review aimed at identifying the scientific production on social memory, childhood and migration between 2010-2020 in the format of scientific articles. Following the PRISMA guidelines, we included 38 scientific articles by means of a thematic analysis. The results illustrate the construction of children's memory from identity aspects; through intergenerational transmission and post-memory, and through transnational and forced migration experiences. Finally, some research is concerned with studying memories as practices of resistance, and children as agents of collective memory. Finally, through discussions and conclusions, we reflect on the ways in which children are conceived of in these fields of study and the importance of valuing their participation in research dealing with memory practices and migration processes, along with some limitations and contributions of the review.
