Transformative projects for promoting reading and media and information literacy: the experience of the Emilio Muñoz Secondary Education Institute in Cogollos Vega (Granada)

Abstract

This experience presents projects aimed at promoting reading and media and information literacy developed by the Emilio Muñoz Secondary Education Institute in Cogollos Vega (Granada) and coordinated through its library. The aim of these projects, developed in collaboration with families and the local community, is to encourage reading and to foster media and information literacy as well as linguistic communication competence across all subjects. The projects are carried out in coordination with teaching staff from different departments, those responsible for plans and programs, and the library committee, which is made up of teachers, students, and families. The library contributes by providing both printed and digital information resources and by organizing various activities. The methodology varies depending on the activity carried out and includes research-based learning and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Learning and Knowledge Technologies (LKT), and Technologies for Empowerment and Participation (TEP). The evaluation of the experience is positive, as it motivates students by addressing the relationship between different topics and literature, working on oral and written expression and comprehension, and improving the acquisition of competences useful across different subjects within the school context.

María-del-Pilar Mesa-Arroyo, IES Emilio Muñoz de Cogollos Vega

Doctora europea en Lengua Española con sobresaliente cum laude por la UGR (2012). Desde 2006 a 2025 ha sido miembro de equipo o responsable de biblioteca escolar. Formó parte del equipo de la Red profesional de bibliotecas escolares de Granada de 2018 a 2019 y en 2024/ 2025 y fue tutora en la Dinamización de la red regional andaluza de bibliotecas escolares desde 2018 a 2023. Miembro del Consejo de redacción de la Revista de bibliotecas escolares, Libro abierto desde 2017 a 2023. Desde 2018 hasta la actualidad coordina el Grupo de cooperación bibliotecaria Leyendo la sierra. En 2019/2020 la biblioteca de la que era responsable obtuvo el Segundo premio a mejor biblioteca escolar de Secundaria de Andalucía. En la III edición del certamen “Enseñamos a Leer” de 2021, se alzó con un segundo premio. En 2024 su plan de lectura fue reconocido como premio nacional de fomento de lectura del Ministerio. En el curso 2025/ 2026 forma parte del equipo de expertos de Comunica y es coordinadora del Programa de cooperación territorial de refuerzo de la comprensión lectora de su centro.
