“Better than the locals”. Social capital and its display in the academic success of young Filipinos in Barcelona
Abstract
Many youngsters of Filipino origin are rewarded in Barcelona because of their academic success and low social conflictivity. This paper discusses the reasons and consequences and analyzes some of the crucial factors which characterize the Filipino community: its human and social capital, as well as the transcultural circulation of education as a key value in the families. This study is the result of a five-year ethnography between Barcelona and the Philippines.Downloads
