Monitoring and self-assessment at the university classroom with a Tablet PC
Abstract
One of the key elements of the European Higher Education Area is the recognition of the necessity of monitoring and measuring student activity throughout the learning process. To do this we have conducted an experiment in the University Center of Mérida, in the University of Extremadura, and we have developed an application for a Tablet PC in which students can record the amount of time and their level of participation to a course. In each session the student attended, he/she recorded on the application the hours dedicated to the course outside of the classroom since the last session, the tasks done and the level of participation. Thus a complete record of all student work inside and outside of the classroom can easily be obtained to fulfill the continuous assessment implicit in student-centered paradigm within the Bologna process. This information can also be used to provide a more complete progress summary for students, enabling them to analyze their coursework and progress.Downloads
