Elia Barceló’s Youth Fantastic Narrative: El efecto Frankenstein
Abstract
This paper focuses on youth fantasy fiction by Spanish writer Elia Barceló, specifically her novel El efecto Frankenstein. The success of non-mimetic narratives among young readers makes this subgenre the most suitable tool for promoting reading habits. Besides, youth fantasy novel has increased its chances of introducing new models in the subgenre and question the limits of gender stereotypes. El efecto Frankenstein is a fantastic novel that establishes a metaliterary dialogue with the Science Fiction genre. Elia Barceló uses features of non-mimetic fiction to analyze historically the construction of concepts of sex, gender and social class and the inequality caused by them.
