Oral Interaction in English between Peers: Case of Students in French Higher Education
Abstract
This article focuses on the process at work during oral interaction tasks between peers in English as a foreign language course in the LANSAD (Languages for specialists in other disciplines) sector in a scientific context. We started from the fact that the appropriation of a foreign language occurs in and through interaction, and that traces can be observed in the interaction. We set up a comprehensive research in the form of action research, and analyzed the oral interactions of a pair of students. These interactions allowed them to multiply the exchanges in French and/or in English, because of the numerous turns of speech and the reflexive aspects on the language activated by the interaction.
