Didactic proposal to deal with art contents through the English language in year 3 of Primary Education
Abstract
This work has been developed in a school with a medium to high sociocultural level with children of Year 3 and who have a very good English level. The main objective is to work with Picasso’s art and art periods by using English as a vehicular language, integrating art contents and the English language. The main problem is the lack of hours that the Arts and Crafts subject has in the curriculum, which is putting it aside. This work shows three activities in which art contents are developed by using four basic skills of the English language, through the VTS methodology, expert groups and a picture dictation. The results have been positive because the proposed objectives have been accomplished and the students have been able to express themselves using pictorial terminology in English during the development of the activities, to identify geometric shapes, and to understand the symbolism of warm and cold colours in the paintings. This work also has some limitations, as writing skills are the least developed in comparison with the others. Consequently, a further development of the writing skills is recommended in a future implementation.
