From information to (inter)action: The role of interrogatives in the corpus GestINF
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to highlight the role of interrogatives among the set of strategies used by the speakers to manage the informational configuration that supports each interaction. In this way, the paper goes beyond the immediate function of interrogatives —as a way to update the informational file shared by the participants in a communicative action— to trace a bridge with some other categories. The corpus GestINF is used as empirical evidence. More generally, interrogatives emerge as a useful tool to deal with the tandem intersubjectivity / mirativity, which allow the speakers to control informational responsibility or to show their reactions towards a certain state of affairs. Furthermore, interrogatives become as well into a mechanism useful to structurally organize a certain type of discourse
