Advertising medicines, secret remedies and specific medication in 19th-century Malaga press: characterization and textual configuration
Abstract
Malaga in the 19th century, in particular during its second half, offers excellent examples of the development of advertisement in newspapers through a key sector both for its high representation in the advertisement sections and for its persistence over time: product for health. The study of the linguistics keys of a corpus of advertising messages obtained from the Malaga press in the 19th century lets us analyze the evolution of a genre that gradually takes shape with a special language aimed at exalting the qualities of medicines and appealing to potential customers
