Abstract
In this work we analyze the diaphasic and diamesic variation that the simple indicative verb tenses manifest, for which we analyze a corpus consisting of 55 works aimed at teaching Spanish as a foreign language, in particular, 30 grammars and 25 manuals. We start from the hypothesis that the variation will be manifested in the non-prototypical values of the verb tenses, that is, in those considered marked. Thus, after recalling the need to teach communicative competence in ELE and, with it, linguistic variation, we analyze the values that manifest diaphasic and/or diamestic variation, namely: 1) the expression of futurity with the present and with the periphrasis ; 2) the use of cantaría and cantaba in conditional apodosis; 3) the alternation between indicative verb forms; and 4) other values, including the future of the past or the narrative value, both expressed by cantaba.
