About the functions of ahora sí que/ora sí que as polyphony introducer
Abstract
ahora sí que/ora sí que is a discourse marker characteristic of variety of Mexico City Spanish. However, the research about it is few. In this paper, we try to contribute to fill this gap. In specific, our aim is describing the functions that this marker carries out as introducer of polyphony. We analyze Corpus Sociolingüístico de la Ciudad de México (Martín Butragueño y Lastra, 2011-2015) and find out marker can introduce four kind of polyphony: (i) phraseological units (idioms) with or without communication verb, (ii) reported direct speech with communication verb, (iii) free direct speech, and (iv) quotative function (Borreguero, 2017). These results suggest that ahora sí que/ora sí que has a deictic grounding at particular moment in the discourse, and this promote the introduction of other voices mainly to specify or exemplify what the speaker is saying, through colloquial phraseological units which are familiar to interlocutor
