Cultural mediation through artistic practice. When the word didn’t exist…
Abstract
Cultural mediation is a creative process in art with personal, aesthetic and creative characteristics unlimited by traditional art or social context.
It is a term first used in Spain in the particular context of the economic, social and institutional crisis of 2008 which made it necessary to specify actions and intentions of a creative process different from that of the normal creative industry. Also a way to create where the aesthetic and ethical enter a dialogue to give new ways of approaching problems of resolution and understanding. An art and culture carried out through mediation between reality and the people consulted in a given context.
A slow artistic process that requires empathy for reality, respect and active participation of the environment where action and reflection converge naturally, always aware that, as anthropologists say, by simply observing you are altering the original conditions.
Cultural mediation, therefore, allows us to work from the everyday in an extraordinary praxis (artistic process) that generates consequences in a specific context through action and reflection.
This article intends to delve into certain aspects of Cultural Mediation through the artistic practice of Isidro Lopez-Aparicio (ILA) a way of carrying out art in society until now devoid terminology in the field.
The development of this article, therefore, is an approach to this way of operating in a social context through art.
