Keywords: participatory art, cultural managers, interviews, experiences, social impact

Abstract

The 1990s witnessed a heightened focus on social and community art, leading to significant theoretical advancements in this domain. Presently, social art has firmly established its position within the contemporary Spanish artistic sector, finding expression through calls and programmes within institutional frameworks.

This paper presents an updated study of the most noteworthy calls and programmes promoting participatory art in Spain, aiming to gain precise insights into their origins, management models, and social impact. Employing a qualitative methodology based on personal interviews with the organisers and curators, this research delves into the challenges, opportunities, and perspectives faced by these key actors in the production and organisation of participatory artistic events. Examining the gathered data will provide a deeper understanding of the dynamics of participatory art in the country and contribute to enriching the fields of cultural studies and artistic event management.
