Visual arts in pediatric hospitals. The role of art in the psychological well-being of hospitalized children
Abstract
The aim of this work was to review scientific publications that could provide evidence about the role of ]2000 to 2019 were reviewed, the search for publications made between 2020 and 2022 was updated. In total, 24 potentially relevant new papers were identified, of which 16 have been included in this review. Overall, the results of these new studies highlight the importance of visual arts in relation to the well-being of children in hospitals, reinforcing the idea of the significant role of visual arts in the well-being of patients, their families and healthcare staff. The empirical works analyzed support the perspective of visual arts as an important component of the quality of children's hospitals because they can enhance the symbolic aspects of inpatient settings and positively affect communication processes in the hospital.
