From Painting to Comic. Intermedialities Projections in the Graphic Narrative by Antonio Altarriba
Abstract
The study of comic books and graphic novels is increasingly important in cultural and sociological fields. From an intermedial approach, this article analyses the most important comic books and graphic novels signed by the writer Antonio Altarriba. The implication that Altarriba’s figurative narration offers some of the best lessons to understand how comic books build a space of great complexity and variety, both aesthetically and narratively, adapting national and international references. Specifically, the research tracks and verifies the importance of the universal iconography of painting and art in the imaginary ideas devised by Altarriba and his artistic collaborators between 2005 and 2020. In this creative period, Antonio Altarriba has established as one of the most recognized comic book writers in contemporary graphic narrative.
