The Buendía-Iguarán house. Magical realism and 3D restitution

Keywords: García Márquez, Literature, architecture, module, geometry

Abstract

We present a three-dimensional restitution of the Buendía-Iguarán house from the detailed
descriptions of One Hundred Years of Solitude by applying constructive criteria to the narrative
universe. To do this, we generated a methodology that allowed to verify the narrative logics of literature
and the construction logics of architecture. Measurements were assigned based on a geometric module
that integrated the concepts of space and the construction of the building. The research achieved the
determination of the measurements of the lot, the number of rooms that could be built at the maximum
moment of growth of the house and the arrangement of the spaces in the three stages of its development.
The core of the paper is to provide a methodology for the three-dimensional restitution of other literary
works that contain fictional architectural references.
