Wikipedia and the Spain State Museums (Subdirección General de Bellas Artes)
Abstract
This article investigates into the online discourse created in Wikipedia about the museums: Museos Estatales, the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Museo Lázaro Galdiano. The aim is to contrast the concept of Open Authority presented by Lori Byrd Phillips. According to this author, Wikipedia is a place that facilitates this construction of collaborative and free speeches.
Our research has monitored the entries, the articles, and the debate construction on these museums in all language versions of the online encyclopedia for three years. The behaviour of users, or wikipedians, who participated in these entries was also observed.
Our conclusions reflect how Wikipedia is a place of free creation over museums.
