Study on clay figures made by children aged three to five
Abstract
This article discusses the study of clay figure modeling produced by children aged three to five. To this end, a theoretical framework that reviews the progress of the main authorities is created. In addition, a sample of some 170 modeling pieces and many other drawings depicting the same themes are collected, and the main characteristics of all creations are recorded. The data are analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitative analysis allows to test the strength of the starting hypotheses, aimed at correlating the variables volume (or absence of volume), age and theme. Then, qualitative analysis give us a closer look, deepening in emerging aspects and critical points of the theoretical framework. The study notes the heterogeneity of previous studies, discrepancies between authors and the relevance of understanding modeling as a specific and differentiated language. This leads to the need to create more precise methodological tools and to continue research with larger, varied samples covering other age ranges.
