The Video Art Archive ARES. Methodological Assumptions of a Research Project at University Field: Archiving, Mapping, Affecting

Keywords: Archive, identity, audio-visual, methodology, affect

Abstract

We propose an analysis of the research project, ‘Archive and critical study of audio-visual art practices (expanded video) in Spain. Identity and new media’, which aims to adhere to the new paradigms of knowledge. From deconstructive models, these epistemological and methodological initiatives pursue the establishment of different spaces for life and affection. The project is based on the creation of a critic analysis that calls in question the representation systems of the Audio-visual production in Spain since the 1970 decade until nowadays. The production is understood as the narration and memory of the collective experience concerning the transformation of our identity. This transformation encourages the reflection on past social events, marking our development. The methodological assumptions that have driven the research -the archive, the map, the palimpsest- give a chance for open itineraries -between the moving images, the archiving process, the website creation, the written essays, and its public exhibitionamplifying the discursive interpretation.
