Artistic maps as narratives that shape identity
Abstract
At present we find an extensive range of experimental cartographic contributions in the artistic field. In this research we focus on those discursive approaches that are formalized in the physiognomy of a map, sometimes with specific geographical allusions and with the intention of configuring a specific territory. These cartographic modalities usually perform data recording tasks and sometimes, fieldwork tasks. There is a slope in which, the registration is made through the act of walking. The individual becomes a necessary device to travel, know and understand a territory, based on his experience. On the other hand, in recent times participatory cartographies have been consolidated, where the recording of information has a collective treatment. In any modality, the registration of information entails the obtaining of a set of narrative fragments, materialized in diverse journeys, connections, encounters, which together make up a discourse in a map format. This type of narrative tries to visualize another link with space in front of the official model, and at the same time contribute with these manifestations to the construction of identity.
