The influences of archaeological ruins of Yagul on the art of Ana Mendieta
Abstract
Pre-Columbian art has been used by many artists as a reference, in many cases, with the intention of recovering a missing cultural heritage. In this research we will know one of these experiences analyzing one of the most important works of Ana Mendieta’s career: Image of Yagul (1973), held in the archaeological ruins of Yagul (Oaxaca, Mexico). With the support of the research of others authors we discover what is the relationship between the work and its referent, what was the event that historically originated this interest and, finally, what is the concept which the artist rescued from the pre-Columbian world, fundamental to understanding his artworks.Downloads
