Textiles in art and art made with textiles. Contributions of women to their artistic legitimation between the 19th and the 20th centuries
Abstract
The following review examines the contributions of several important female authors to the development of textiles in design and art between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, considering the different typologies developed, their historical context, and their critical reception. During this period, as a result of the institutionalization of women's artistic education in Europe, a process of reconsideration of textile-related practices took place. Conditioned by their association with femininity and their proximity to craftsmanship, History has not favored the dissemination of the work produced by many female creators who participated in the artistic movements and circles of the time, contributing decisively to their artistic legitimization.
