Considerations on the Concept of Terrorism. From Semantic Controversies to Matters of Mise en Scène in Contemporary Cinema
Abstract
In this text, we intend to reflect on the concept of terrorism, as the definition of this debatable term has not achieved an institutional consensus on an international level. By taking the areas of conflict as a starting point, in which some of the meanings of the term are found, we will trace a journey through a series of films that have addressed the terrorist phenomenon from different conventional approaches, with the aim of analysing the film genre and the concept of terorism that we examine in the film texts. This journey, which takes us through different historic contexts and various conflicts, is led by criminal organisations such as the Red Army Faction, Red Brigades, ETA or the German military faction: Baader Meinhof.
